Competition Definitions & Descriptions for 2017-2018

2.  PEOPLE PRINTS : A photograph of a person or persons that may range from a head study to full body length. This theme includes candid photographs and formal portraits.

3.  LONG EXPOSURE PDI : For our competition, a long exposure photograph is any photograph taken using a longer exposure time than normally needed to obtain a correctly exposed photograph, either during daytime with the use of filters or during the night with or without the use of filters. Suggestions are light trails, night time / low light photography, light painting, blurring water in landscapes, blurring any moving object within an image or even a creative approach where the camera is moved during exposure. There is no theme but your shutter must be open for 1 second or longer. Don't forget - as it's a DPI comp, the judge will be able to check the shutter speed used to take the image.

(For further info we suggest you look at Wikipedia and members who are unsure of the technique, especially intermediate/beginners, please feel free to ask other club members for guidance or have a look at the numerous websites (especially Youtube) online. Most of all just experiment and have fun doing so).

4.  OPEN COLOUR PRINTS : Any subject. The image must have two or more colours.

5.  CLOSE UP PDI : Any subject. The image must be taken within three feet of subject to lens. Images taken with a zoom lens so as to make the subject appear closer than it really is will not be accepted. It is the author's responsibility to play by the rules.

6.  OPEN MONO PRINTS : Any subject. The image must have no colour but may be monochrome and have a single colour tint e.g. sepia or cyan.

7.  OPEN TRADITIONAL COLOUR OR MONO PDI : A traditional photograph maintains the original image content with minimum adjustments which should not alter the reality of the scene and should appear natural. Rearranging , replacing, adding to or removing any part of the image except by cropping is strictly forbidden. No HDR or Focus Stacking. It is the author's responsibility to play by the rules.

8.  LANDSCAPE PRINTS : The image must include some form of land. Possible themes may be urban, rural, industrial or coastal. Seascapes will be accepted if they show some land.

(All images entered into LLPS competitions must be the original work of the entrant.  The original image must be made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or captured digitally. All images must be original and may not incorporate elements produced by anyone else;  the use of stock photography is not allowed.)
