An Image may only be entered twice in one season of competitions.

One of the biggest benefits of being in a camera club is entering photographic competitions.   Llandudno club is no exception.   Entries are collected by the competition secretary who sends them to an outside judge. The judge then awards the best pictures either commended, highly commended, third, second, or first place. The judge has two weeks to mull over the pictures. He then comes to the club and talks about each picture as it is shown, offering constructive criticism.

You get 2 points for commended, 3 for highly commended, and so on up to 6 points for a win.   At the end of the season the points are added up and the winners are presented with certificates and trophies at our social evening.

We have two classes of entry, which are as follows:

1)  PROJECTED IMAGES

Any combination of slides or digital images up to a maximum of 3 combined.

SLIDES

35mm  secured in a 2" x 2" mount (no glass Mounts.)
Spotting - holding the slide the right way up, a red spot should be placed on the bottom left-hand corner of the slide.

DIGITAL IMAGES

Submission of Digital Images for LLPS Competitions

It is necessary to have a set procedure for the naming and submission of digital images to LLPS competitions.  This is to ensure that images do not get assigned to the wrong member during the judging process and therefore allow for a seamless transition to this style of entry.

1.  When submitting your image you must ensure that it is correctly orientated when saved to your club issue "Pen Drive".

Correct

Incorrect

2.  it is suggested that the maximum resolution that you save your image as is 1024 pixels x 768 pixels.  This is due to the fact that this is the maximum resolution for the projector and therefore anything greater is simply overkill.

3.  You must submit your image as a jpeg (.jpg) file.

4.  When naming your image you must follow the following rules:-

a.  The first part of the filename is the title for the image (worlds most beautiful woman)

b.  You then insert a dash (-)

c.  The second part of the filename is your full membership number (LLPS100)

Therefore the filename for the image above would be:-
worlds most beautiful woman-LLPS100.jpg

5.  Images should only be entered on club issue USB Flash/Key/Pen drives, but images on CD will be allowed at present.

If you have any questions at all then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the committee who can offer assistance.

2)  PRINTS

BLACK & WHITE / COLOUR PRINTS

Any combination of black and white or colour prints up to a maximum of 3 combined.

Maximum 50 x 40cm (including mount)
Minimum 18 x 13cm (excluding mount)

Competition Notes

Maximum number of entries per competition is 6  --  three of each class.
Slides/Images/Prints that have won a first place in a club (LLPS) competition cannot be re-entered into another club (LLPS) competition.

Entry Fee

A fee of 30p (thirty pence) per competitor is levied for each competition regardless of the number of entries submitted.   Fees to be paid on submission of entries.   Entries to be submitted two weeks prior to judging date.

Identity of Entrant

Front of slide, or Rear of print - membership number,  LLPS and title.   Wrongly labelled or untitled slides/prints will be handed back un-judged.    Trade processed entries may be so identified.

Digital Images to be labelled as shown above.

New Rule   (Passed at the 2005 AGM)

All entries - both slides and prints, are to be labelled 1, 2, and 3.  This is so that if there are too many entries in a competition, the competition secretary can remove the number 3 slide or print to make the judges job a lot easier.

Five Year Rule

No club competition entry to have been taken prior to the 2002/2003 season.

Awards

Our Collection of Trophies

The Llandudno Photographic Society has a large and comprehensive selection of trophies.   These are as follows:

Holden Trophy - Photographer of the year.

Runner-Up Shield - Runner-Up.

Dalton Shield - Black & White Photographer of the year.

Dyffryn Conwy Shield - B&W Runner-Up.

Colour Print Shield - Colour Print Photographer of the year.

Shield - Colour Print Runner-Up.

Michael Rutter Shield - Slide Worker of the Year.

J.E. Roberts Shield - Slide Runner-Up.

Peter Carlyon Shield - Winner of the Open Slide Competition.

Bob Cambridge Cup - Winner of the Close-Up Competition.

Hoosons Cup - Winner of the Hooson's Competition.

Nikon Annie Cup - Winner of the Creative Slide Competition.

Gwyn Jones Natural History Cup - Winner of the Nature Competition.

Borgen Trophy - Winning Landscape in the Open Competition.

Junior Trophy - Highest placed Junior overall.

Iggulden Rose Bowl - Winner of the Farm Competition

Chairman's Trophy - The Club Chairman's favourite picture of the year.

All of these trophies must be  returned after one year.    However - each trophy winner gets a small trophy to keep, including one for every competition win not covered by a big trophy. As if all this isn't enough, each member receives a certificate for every placed picture he or she is awarded from commended to first place. The only trouble is, if you are quite successful in competitions you end up with such a huge load of silverware a wheelbarrow is required to lug it all home!!

As you can see - being in the Llandudno Photographic Society can be very rewarding, in more ways than one!
