NWPA EXHIBITION 2012

The Llandudno Photographic Society was well represented at this year’s NWPA Exhibition. Several members were very successful gaining Best Creative Print Trophy, Highly commended, Commended, plus several prints/DPIs accepted into the Exhibition.

The Exhibitions opens at Electric Mountain, Llanberis on 14th July – 11th August. Well done to Doug Braisby, Henry Florczyk, Robert Jones and Sharon Fraser.

All results can be seen on the NWPA web site:  http://www.cffgc.co.uk/Exhibition%202012/Exhibition%202012.html

March 2012  This is FANTASTIC news!

Recently Llandudno photographic club was in a battle with 7 other  photographic clubs.  Mold club organise the battle on a yearly basis inviting up to 11 other clubs and is DPI only.

Each club enters 5 images plus 2 extra as reserves in case of a tie at the end.  The competition is held over several rounds with the judge removing images per round with points being given until he has his selected few.

We did not win the overhaul battle but the top image award was won by one of our members.  The title of the Image  is `LOST IN MUSIC` and its author is DOUG BRAISBY.  Doug also won our OPEN Competition with this image as a print.

Congratulations are definitely in order.

2012/03/02  Sharon Fraser, one of the new members in the club, won a recent Nikon In-Frame competition with her night shot of Conwy Castle.

This win was by a public vote from Nikon members in the UK and Republic of Ireland and represents a significant win for a beginning photographer (Sharon bought her first SLR camera in August 2011). Nikon made the following comments about the photograph. “The beauty of this lit castle takes centre stage in this stunning quayside photo. Brooding blue skies cower over the town below, whose lights dance brilliantly across the water in this perfectly timed and composed shot. A great example of an image which demonstrates the rule of thirds effectively”. Sharon’s prize of a Nikon Cool Pix 300 is being raffled to raise club funds and tickets are now available at each club night between now and the AGM.

I am writing to let you know that the Glaslyn Osprey site can now offer guided walks in the stunning Glaslyn Valley.

The walks will be of approximately one and a half hours to two hours in duration and suitable for all as they will be held entirely on the flat.  Some areas may be muddy so stout footwear is advisable. At the end/beginning of the walk a short presentation of the work of the project will be shown.  Free parking is available on site.

Groups of more than 20 may need to be split; prior booking is essential. A suggested donation of £4.00 per person will include refreshments.

Well, the new season is nearly upon us again, and I am looking forward to seeing you all on the 7th September.  I hope you have all had a good summer break, and have been getting some good pictures for the new seasons competitions.

The club is open to all new members. If you are interested in photography and wish to join, we have an excellent venue at Craig-y-Don community Centre, with good car parking facilities. I, and the Committee members, will be there to welcome you, and to introduce you to the other members.
